This article overviews how to use the Microsoft Authenticator app, and what to do if you cannot access the authenticator app.
What is Authenticator?
Microsoft Authenticator (Authenticator) is replacing DUO for Tarleton's multi-factor authentication (MFA), which provides added security to Tarleton user accounts in the form of an app. If you are unable to use the Authenticator app, a text, phone call, token, or alternative method can be used as well (tokens are available upon request). Multi-factor authentication adds a second layer of security, keeping your account secure even if your password is compromised. With Authenticator, you will be alerted through the app on your phone requesting a two-digit security code if someone is trying to login as you.
Logging in using Authenticator
Upon logging into Tarleton resources, you will be prompted to interact with Authenticator. From the login screen, you will enter your Tarleton email and password.
You will see the "Approve sign in request" screen. This will display a two-digit number to be entered into the pop-up box on your mobile device.
If you are not automatically prompted by Authenticator, please open the authenticator app on your mobile device and wait for the pop-up box to appear and then enter your two digit code.
Can't access Microsoft Authenticator app right now
If you are unable to access the Authenticator app, you can click I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now on the "Approve sign in request" screen and select an alternative authentication method.
Alternative options include:
- Use a verification code - this option works with your Microsoft Authenticator app, you will enter a six digit code from your mobile device screen into the textbox displayed
- Text - this option will text you a temporary code to the number saved to your profile
- Call - this option will call the number saved to your profile
If the above alternative options are unavailable, please contact 254.968.9885 option 1 for a one-time bypass code or request a token for temporary use.
