How To Back Up Google Chrome Bookmarks

Body

One Time Back Up

These steps will create a one-time backup of your current bookmarks. This is a good option when you need to back up before your computer is reimaged or replaced. If you choose to use a Google account to sync your data in Chrome, then you can skip this method.

Open Google Chrome.

Click on the three dot menu icon near the top right of the browser window.

In the menu that opens, click on Bookmarks.

And in the next menu, click on Bookmark Manager.

Select your previously saved bookmarks file, which you should have saved in OneDrive. And then click Open.

Your bookmarks will now show back up in Chrome.

Sync Bookmarks with a Google Account

You can use/create a Google account and sign into it in Chrome. This allows you to sync your browser data, including bookmarks, to the cloud and other devices running Chrome. With this function, you do not need to worry about making bookmark backups manually.

Open Google Chrome.

Click on the You icon, which defaults to a person’s silhouette in a blue circle.

Click on Turn On Sync. If the window shows you are already signed in without a turn on sync option, then you already have a Google account logged into Chrome and can skip this guide.

A new browser tab will open. Sign in with a Google account. It can be a personal account you already have, or you can click Create Account and create a new one using your Tarleton email address.

After you sign in, you can either click Yes I’m In to sync everything in Google Chrome. Or click Settings.

If you clicked Settings, a new tab will appear. Click on Manage What You Sync and customize what data is synced between devices. You’ll need to select Customize Sync to make changes.

After the initial sync is complete, you only need to sign in to Google Chrome on any device with the same account to sync your data to that device. If your Tarleton computer gets reimaged or replaced, then simply open Chrome and repeat these steps:

Click on the You icon, which defaults to a person’s silhouette in a blue circle.

Click on Turn On Sync. And then sign in with your Google account.

Your data will automatically sync after sign in, but it may take a few minutes.
