Check Connections Between Your Computer and an External Device

When things are not working as intended, a common problem is that the cable between the computer and a device has become loose, broken, pinched, or disconnected. If your keyboard, mouse, printer, monitor, or any other device you plug into your computer isn't working right, try these steps:

*Note: do not open the instructional cart/podium.

  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug the problem device.
  3. Check the wire to make sure it is not damaged or pinched.
  4. Plug it back in and make sure it is attached securely.
  5. Turn the computer back on to see if the problem has been corrected.

The Classroom Monitor is Blank

Issue:

  • The classroom monitor is not showing any picture.
  • The classroom monitor is blank.

Resolution:

  1. Make sure that the cables going to the monitor are secure.
  2. Check to see if any input cables are unplugged from the monitor.
  3. Power-cycle the teacher station.

Unplug the main power cable, leave it unplugged for 10 seconds, and then plug it back in.

Classroom Audio is Not Working

Issue:

  • When playing a DVD, the audio doesn't work from the teacher's workstation.
  • The audio is not working in the classroom.
  • The sound quality in the classroom is extremely poor.
  • I hear sounds come from the speakers when no audio is playing.
  • The audio in this room is fuzzy and hard to hear.

Resolution:

  1. Confirm that audio is not muted on the touch panel.
  2. Confirm that the speakers are not muted on the instructor's computer.
  3. Confirm that the audio on the video player (e.g. YouTube/VLC) is not muted or turned down.
  4. Change the input on the panel to a different source, and then back again.
  5. Shut down the teacher’s station, and then restart.
  6. Check the connection to the wall outlet.

Crashes

If you experience a crash, attempt to reboot the device once or twice, as sometimes updates require multiple restarts.

Blue Screen

In the event of a blue screen, reboot the device. It may require multiple reboots due to certain updates causing blue screens.

Slow Computers

Begin by rebooting the system. If the issue persists, a technician will inspect the device for potential hardware or software problems.

Failure to Power On

Ensure power from the surge protector is reaching the device.

For Desktops

If there's no power to the dock, the screen won't display. Verify power to the computer, especially when docked.

*Note: Confirmation can be done by checking the LED lights; all our docks illuminate.
