A quick start guide for students who have checked out a loaner laptop and are using it for the first time
STEP ONE – POWER UP
On first power up, you will be prompted to select your region, language, keyboard and wireless network.
STEP TWO – ACCOUNT SETUP
Select the “Set up for personal use” option. This will allow you to create an account on the laptop using a personal Microsoft account.
- If you do not already have a personal Microsoft account, select “Create account”.
- This will allow you to use a personal account from a different service such as Gmail or Yahoo.
- If you don’t have a personal email, you can select one of the other options such as “Use a phone number instead” or “Get a new email address.”
- You will be prompted to enter your information to create the account. After this you will be given the option to create a PIN number for signing into the computer.
You will be prompted to sign up for a free Office 365 trial. This is not needed as your go.tarleton.edu account provided by Tarleton gives you access to
Office 365.
STEP THREE – PRIVACY
You will be prompted to accept the privacy settings. Upon accepting these, you will be logged on to the laptop.
STEP FOUR – CUSTOMIZE AND USE
Microsoft Edge is the default browser installed by Microsoft. If you prefer other browsers such as Google Chrome or Firefox, feel free to install these browsers.
