Connect iPhone/iPad to Tarleton-IoT Wi-Fi

When To Use Tarleton-IoT on Your iPhone/iPad?

The vast majority of iPhones and iPads used by Tarleton State University students and employees should connect to Tarleton-WiFi, using their Tarleton account to login.

As Tarleton-IoT only connects to the Internet and not to the local Tarleton network, it is designed to allow Internet access for devices considered less secure.

The only time iOS users should use Tarleton-IoT is when Tarleton-WiFi is not available (such as at the stadium) or when directed to do so by ITS staff.

Find Your iPhone/iPad Wi-Fi Address

The Wi-Fi address is the hardware identification of your device for the Wi-Fi network. Tarleton-IoT uses your Wi-Fi address to identify your device and the password associated with it.

Tap on Settings.

Go to General.

Go to About.

Scroll down until you see Wi-Fi Address.

Note down the Wi-Fi address. You will need to have it when registering your iOS device to work with Tarleton-IoT.

Register the iPhone/iPad for IoT Access

Tarleton-IoT uses device specific passwords for access. A device's MAC or Wi-Fi address must be registered, and a password specific to that device is generated. You can do these steps with your iOS device, provided you have cellular data or other Internet access available. But you'll have an easier time doing this part with a computer (Mac or Windows).

Go to https://its-clearpass01.tarleton.edu/guest

Log in with your Tarleton username and password.

Logging in with your username (jtarleton) verses your email address (jtarleton@tarleton.edu) register as two separate accounts. You want to consistently use your username so that all devices you register can be found under the same account.

Click on Create Device, in the left column.

Fill out the Register Device form:
- Device Name: For your benefit, name it so you can easily identify it later.
- Sponsor's Email: The end user who uses the device. If it is your device, then enter your email.
- MAC Address: The Wi-Fi address of the iPhone or iPad (see above).

Click Create Device.

The next page will provide the password associated with your device for Tarleton-IoT. An email with this information will also be sent to your Tarleton account.

If you need to connect multiple devices to IoT, you must register each one. And each one will receive its own password.

Connect Your iPhone/iPad to Tarleton-IoT

With your iPhone or iPad registered with Tarleton-IoT, and with the password given to you during registration, you can now connect it to Tarleton-IoT for Wi-Fi Internet access.

On your iOS device, open Settings.

Tap on Wi-Fi.

Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on.

Wait a few seconds for the list of networks to load, then find and tap on the info icon next to Tarleton-IoT. It looks like an i inside a circle. If you are prompted for a password, you didn't hit the info icon.
