This article helps ITS Technicians working on Xerox printers understand how to change the host name.
To prevent any disconnection from the printer when its IP changes for some external reason, we use a host name when adding printers to the print server.
1. ACCESS THE WEB INTERFACE OF PRINTER
- You will need the IP address of the printer that you are trying to set up.
- You can find the IP address by printing a configuration report or accessing the printer settings on the printer itself.
- Once you have the IP address, open a web browser and type it into the web address.
- Log in with the admin username and password
2. ACCESS PROPERTIES
- On the top tab, click on “Properties”
- Locate and click on “Connectivity” on the left tab
- From the drop-down menu, click on “Setup”
3. CONNECTIVITY
- Locate and click on “Edit” for Wired Connection
4. WIRED PROFILE
- Under Configuration Settings, click “Edit” for IP (Internet Protocol)
5. IP (INTERNET PROTOCOL)
- Click “Show DNS Settings” for DNS
6. SHOW DNS SETTINGS
- Under Host/Domain Name, locate “Requested Host Name” field
- Type the desired host name of the printer in the field
- Scroll down to the bottom, click “Apply”
- Restart the printer in order to take effect.
