Tarleton State University requires that all macOS devices be encrypted. The Information Technology Services department has created the JAMF profile TSU FileVault which is configured to enable FileVault and encrypt the devices volume.  Once enabled each user of the device will be required to use their password to unlock the device when powering on to use it. Below are the initial steps that must be followed to ensure that FileVault is successfully set up. 

Verify the profile 

On the mac verify that it has the TSU FileVault profile, this is under System Setting > Privacy & Security > Profiles.

Next confirm that FileVault is turned on by going to System Setting > Privacy & Security > FileVault.  When enabled you will see the Turn Off... option and below it will state, FileVault is turned on for the disk “Macintosh HD”.

Start the encryption process 

To complete the setup, the user must log off their device and enter their password.  This should be their NTNET password and moving forward will be required every time that the device is powered on. 

 ***A restart will not initiate the policy***

Once the password is entered, FileVault will start encrypting the device.

The device will restart and will come to the Acceptable Use screen. Click Accept

The encryption login screen will come up, in which only those users who have been setup with FileVault on the device will be able to authenticate and login to the device.  Examples of FileVault Login

After successful authentication the user will be prompted with the Acceptable Use notification.  Once acknowledged this will allow the user to get fully logged into the device.
