Send an email from an address other than your own using Outlook
How to change the From: address in Outlook
By default, Outlook uses your personal email address is used as the From: address. Follow these instructions to change the “From:” if you wish to send an email from an address other than your own. You should only need to do this once and then the From will have a drop-down arrow where you can choose which inbox to send from.
Windows instructions
- Open a New Email in Microsoft Outlook.
- Select the Options Tab.
- Select From in the Show Fields section. This is an on/off button. Click it until the From option appears beside the Send button.
- Select the From drop-down menu above the To...button.
- Select Other Email Address.
- Select From
- Type the new email address in the search field (Ex. mydepartment@tarleton.edu)
- Click OK
- Click the From drop-down above the To...button.
- Select the address from which you wish to send the email
- Confirm that this alternate address appears beside the From button
- You may now complete your email message and send it from this address
macOS instructions
- Open Outlook for Mac
- Select Outlook from the toolbar
- Select Preferences
- Select Accounts
- Select Advanced
- Select Delegates
- Select the + under the Open these additional mailboxes section
- Search for the email address you wish to send from
- Select the address
- Select Add
- Click Ok
- Close the Accounts popup
- Click New Email
- The From: section is now visible. Select the Alternate Email Address from the drop-down menu
- Confirm that the alternate email address is displayed by the From: label
- You may now complete your email message and send it from this address
To send from an alternate email address, your account must have permission to do so. If you are unable to add the desired alternate email address, ask your manager to request this permission on your behalf.
