This guide will show you how to use a keyboard shortcut to quickly change from duplicate to extended display when using multiple monitors. This will be benefit instructors in the classroom, when using a Windows laptop instead of the classroom PC.
These instructions are meant for using a Windows laptop provided by the instructor in the classroom. They will not work with the classroom PC that is in the room. The project menu will appear, but no change to the duplicate monitors will happen. This is a hardware limitation within Tarleton classrooms.
This shortcut will also work on office/workspace Windows PCs connected to two or more monitors. But in most scenarios you'll want to keep those in extend mode.
Using the Windows key + P shortcut in classrooms
First, you will connect your Windows laptop to the laptop cable provided in the instructional space.
- This will usually be an HDMI cable on the instructional cart or table.
Next, you will press the Windows key + P to bring up the Project device options.
- The Project device options provide quick access for changing your display settings between Duplicate (same on the laptop and display) and Extend (different on laptop and display).
- Here you may choose how you would like to use your multiple displays connection.
- You can adjust these settings again anytime by pressing the Windows key + P again.
