Canvas accounts are separate from your Tarleton NTNET account and are created through different processes depending on your role. This article explains how Canvas accounts are created for faculty, students, staff, and contractors, so you know what to expect or what steps to take.
Table of Contents
Faculty
No action is needed. When you are hired, you will receive an NTNET account (your Tarleton network login used for email, Wi-Fi, and most university systems). However, your Canvas account is created separately and will not be set up until you are assigned as Instructor of Record for a course in Banner, the university's student information system.
If you need access to Canvas before being assigned as
the Instructor of Record, your supervisor can submit a Canvas Account Request on your behalf to create a temporary account.
Students
No action is needed. Your Canvas account is created automatically when you register for classes.
Being admitted or accepted to Tarleton does not create a Canvas account. You must be actively registered for at least one class for your account to be created.
Staff
Staff accounts are not created automatically. To get access to Canvas, you must submit a Canvas Account Request.
Contractors and Other External Users
You must have an active NTNET account (your Tarleton network login) before the request can be processed. If you do not have one, work with your Tarleton sponsor to get one set up first.
